hiroshi,

Your question assumes that armed students will necessarily shoot it out with each other over minor disputes. As I discussed above, there doesn't seem to be evidence supporting that idea. In the few schools where students are allowed concealed carry, that hasn't happened. Nor does it seem that college-age students with concealed carry permits are shooting it out off of campus, where they are allowed to carry.

Instead, most people just don't kill other people on a whim. There are certainly those members of society who are so inclined towards violence, but they tend to either (1) ignore the gun ban laws and carry a gun anyway or (2) use some other tool to harm their victims. e.g.: http://www.learnaboutguns.com/2009/10/16/guns-are-not-the-problem/

I love your website and it has been very informative and great in helping me shape my opinion and stances on firearms issues. I am on the fence with the campus CCW issue. Being an undergraduate student, I get to see many of the petty disputes that occur over relationships or differences of opinion. I find that many of my colleagues do tend to have their wits about them, but they can easily get lost in emotional furor of a protest or argument. The University environment is an environment that fosters debate and does not allow for an escape from it. I'm not saying that disputes will result in shootouts, but that very small fraction will result in a death on campus. While the school shootings are terrible cases showing the poor protective effect of gun bans, would the sum of deaths from disputes gone wrong be worth it?
