Those opposed to gun rights like to suggest that this country’s law abiding gun owners are irresponsible, and that only the police should have firearms. As the cases discussed below show, that argument is flawed, and law police officers negligently lose firearms with depressing regularity:
After law school, I moved to Iowa (near the Illinois border) and began working for the Department of Defense legal office where I had interned the previous summer. I’ve previously discussed how the AR-15 is properly called a “modern sporting rifle” instead of an “assault weapon.” Along those lines, I would like to point out Modern-Sporting-Rifle.com, which is a website dedicated to this issue. . . . be an informed gun owner and to use the following facts to correct misconceptions about these rifles. Support the cause and banish the term Assault Weapon from any conversation. Replace it with “MSR” or Modern Sporting Rifle. [Read more here.]
I recently read an article from Don’tEvenReply.com, which I found to be quite funny. It involves a person’s humorous attempt at creating (poorly) disguised weapons for self defense. While I normally prefer to focus on the serious issue of gun rights and self defense, I found this article and its pictures to be too funny to not post. An exerpt from the article: This cleverly disguised weapon may look like a tissue box, but is actually a Benelli M3 12 … Continued

Iowa Carry, an affiliate group of the Second Amendment Foundation that focuses on concealed carry rights for the state of Iowa, has created its own legislative action center. From that website, gun rights supporters can easily stay up to date on pending gun legislation and contact their representatives with just a few clicks. I would like to encourage Iowa residents to take a moment and use the legislative action center to urge their representatives to support HF2255, which would greatly … Continued
I’ve previously discussed how bans on so-called “assault weapons” are irrational, and based upon the use of fear tactics by disingenuous politicians. One myths is that these so-called “assault weapons” are more powerful and lethal than ordinary hunting guns. As the video clip below shows, the rounds fired by “assault weapons” tend to be less powerful than those fired by ordinary deer hunting rifles that have been around for decades:

I would encourage everyone to check out either the online version or the downloadable (PDF) version of the NRA’s “Fables, Myths & Other Tall Tales about GUN LAWS, CRIME and CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS” pamphlet. It debunks many anti-gun myths, and should be of help when debating gun rights with those who take as fact the anti gun and anti self defense propaganda which saturates the mainstream media.
