As reported,Iowa Governor Chet Culver has finally signed SF2379, making Iowa a “shall issue” concealed carry state. This important law, which takes effect on January 1, 2011, will put an end to arbitrary denials of the right to carry a gun for self defense in Iowa.

“The Second Amendment has Nothing to do with Hunting” Video Clip

In the video clip below, Peter Schiff discusses how the Second Amendment’s purpose to provide protection against both governmental tyranny and criminals, rather than to only protect guns suitable for hunting.  Mr Schiff also briefly discusses the types of arms protected by the 2nd Amendment, and how firearms are the great equalizer:

Urgent Deadline Approaching for Iowa Concealed Carry Reform – Contat Gov. Culver TODAY

As I’ve previously mentioned several times now, the Iowa house and senate passed SF2379, which would greatly improve Iowa’s concealed carry law by requiring that sheriffs to issue a permit to carry weapons to all applicants, unless they are subject to certain specific disqualifiers (under the current law, each sheriff can set their own policy, and arbitrarily deny law abiding citizens the right to carry a gun for self defense).  However, Iowa Governor Chet Culver still has not yet signed … Continued

Learn Gun Safety with Eddie Eagle Video Clip

Below is a video clip of the NRA‘s Eddie Eagle gun safety program, which teaches young children not to touch guns. This video is geared towards young children. Note that Eddie Eagle does not promote guns, gun rights or the NRA in any way. It does not teach children how to use guns, but rather instructs children to “stop, don’t touch, leave the area, tell an adult” if they find a gun. The “Related Articles” section below provides more information … Continued

Why Laws that Ban Handguns but Allow Long Guns (shotguns/rifles) are Still Wrongful

I recently received an email from a gentleman who asserted that long guns (rifles/shotguns) are more effective for self defense than handguns, and that it therefore stands to reason that a handgun ban is reasonable so long as citizens are permitted to own long guns.  This is a viewpoint that I’ve heard before, espoused by those note that criminals use handguns more than any other type of gun, and believe that a handgun ban is therefore the appropriate governmental response.  … Continued

“Gun Free, Death Pay” Video Clip

The video clip shown below discusses the ineffectiveness of so-called “gun free zones,” and the massacres that occur when a criminal is able to have a monopoly on firepower. In particular, the Fort Hood shooting is discussed:

Iowa Concealed Carry Reform Bill Still Awaiting Governor Culver’s Signature

As I previously mentioned, the Iowa house and senate passed SF2379, which would greatly improve Iowa’s concealed carry law by requiring that sheriffs to issue a permit to carry weapons to all applicants, unless they are subject to certain specific disqualifiers (under the current law, each sheriff can set their own policy, and arbitrarily deny law abiding citizens the right to carry a gun for self defense).  However,

“No Guns for Negroes” Video Clip Part 2 of 2

Also discussed is the use of firearms by African Americans during the civil rights movement, for self defense against the KKK. This video clip was produced by Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership, and is part 2 of 2.

Ohio Judge Tells Residents to Arm Themselves for Self Defense After Massive Police Budget Cuts

As reported, due to budgetary constraints, the sheriff’s department in Ashtabula County, Ohio, was cut from 112 to 49 deputies. Given the sheriff’s departments other duties, including the transportation of prisoners and serving of warrants, that reduction left just one vehicle to patrol the 720-square-mile county. When asked what residents should do for protection, Common Pleas Judge Alfred Mackey reportedly replied, ” Arm themselves,” and added, “We’re going to have to look after each other.” Area gun dealers and instructors … Continued

If You’re Not Already an NRA Member, Please Join Today

I’ve previously discussed the importance of avoiding complacency and standing up for our gun rights by joining the NRA, so that American gun rights don’t vanish like British gun rights.  I would therefore like to ask that those who are not currently NRA members take a moment to join the NRA.  If you’re already an NRA member, then please consider giving an NRA membership as a gift.

Carjacking and Armed Robbery Continues in “Gun Free” Oak Park, IL

As I’ve mentioned before, Oak Park, IL has a handgun ban, which its politicians like to believe renders the village “gun free.” However, as the crime reports for last week demonstrate, Oak Park is far from “gun free.”  Instead, Oak Park’s handgun ban just ensures that the law abiding members of society are disarmed and vulnerable to the still-armed criminals:

Follow-up on a Self Defense Shooting from November, 2009

In November of 2009, I discussed a self defense shooting from Nacogdoches County, Texas, in which a homeowner used his gun to stop a violent would-be home invader who had threatened his life after shooting 4 horses to death.  The home invader survived, and faced charges for his actions.  Last Thursday, the case was resolved in court through a guilty plea and 10 year prison sentence:

British Gun Control Continues to Fail: Convicted Murderer Released from Prison, Kills Another Defenseless Victim

As reported, Ernest Wright is a 68 year old British man who has been convicted of two murders.  The first murder conviction came in 1973, after he beat Trevor Hale to death with an iron bar, then tried (unsuccessfully) to burn Hale’s body in a shallow grave. Wright served 26 years in prison for that crime, and was then released.  In March of 2009, Wright (illegally) armed himself with a shotgun, covered his face with a mask, and broke into … Continued

Apartment Invader Shot by Armed Apartment Renter

As reported, an intruder who repeatedly broke in to a Lincoln, New Hampshire apartment, while apparently looking for a former resident of that apartment, was shot in self defense by the current tenant:

Another Mass Killing in a “Gun Free” Zone

Those opposed to gun rights like to suggest that mass killings are a result of American gun rights.  A recent news report from China, where guns are strictly controlled, shows that mass killings can be committed using objects other than guns – and that disarming the law abiding members of society simply leaves them vulnerable to mentally disturbed killers:

“Outrage of the Week”

Below is a recent article from the NRA, which discusses how a law abiding gun owner was jailed for 4 days then dragged through a lengthy legal nightmare, due to a combination of unreasonable gun control laws and poor judgment upon the part of those whose duty it is to enforce those laws: This week’s Outrage concerns a legal case that comes to us from New Jersey, where a well-meaning firearm owner, through a series of events that were no … Continued

More Chicago Injustice

A pair of home invasions, which both recently took place on the South Side of Chicago, highlight the injustice (and ineffectiveness) of the Chicago handgun ban.

EVERYONE: Please Urge Governor Culver To Sign Iowa “Shall Issue” Concealed Carry Law

Earlier this week, the Iowa legislature passed SF-2379, which would turn Iowa into a “shall issue” concealed carry state. However, Governor Culver has not yet signed this bill into law. If you haven’t contacted the Governor’s office yet, please do so today. Remember, this law would allow those with concealed carry permits from other states to lawfully carry in Iowa, so even if you’re not an Iowa resident, please contact Gov. Culver and urge him to sign SF-2379 into law.

“Exciting new way of cooking Bacon (with pictures)”

Below is a post from Reddit that I found to be entertaining enough to repost here.  It involves bacon and a machine gun: I’ve discovered a new way of cooking bacon. All you need is: bacon, tin foil, some string, and.. oh whats it called?… oh yeah, an old worn out 7.62mm machinegun that is about to be discarded, and about 200 rounds of ammunition. You start by wrapping the barrel in tin foil. Then you wrap bacon around it, … Continued
