Sign a Petition to Help End Unlawful FOID Card Issuance Delays

As I’ve previously discussed, residents of Illinois who wish to own a gun need to first get a Firearms Owner Identification Card (FOID).  The law requires that the FOID be issued within 30 days, however the Illinois State Police have been breaking the law by taking longer than 30 days to issue FOID cards.  In this discussion forum thread, more people have reported these wrongful delays that can stretch for weeks or even months.  I also see at least a dozen people arrive at this site each day after searching for terms such as “where is my foid card” and “foid card status”.  I’ve started a petition to help end this wrongdoing on the part of the Illinois State Police: Read the rest of this article »

Sign the Illinois Concealed Carry Petition

As it stands, Illinois is one of only two states that has no law allowing concealed carry.  The result is that criminals are armed, while law abiding citizens are defenseless.  In the hopes of changing this situation, a petition was started to bring concealed carry to Illinois: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/IllinoisCCW/

Illinois State Police Unlawfully Delaying Firearms Owner Identification (FOID) Cards

I received an email today from a gentleman named Mick, who mentioned a rather serious problem going on in Illinois with respect to FOID card issuance.  Mick and several other people he knows have waited over 60 days to get their FOID cards, despite the fact that the law requires the FOID be issued or denied within 30 days.  I also personally know of a person whose FOID application has been pending for more than the 30 day waiting period allowed by law. Department Of The Interior Extends Deadline For Comments On Right-To-Carry In National Parks

The Department of the Interior was preparing to promulgate rules that would allow concealed carry for self defense in national parks. As the NRA reports, rather than closing the comment period as scheduled and moving toward finalizing this federal regulation, U.S. Senator Daniel Akaka (D-Hawaii) and U.S. Representative Raul Grijalva (D-Arizona), succeeded in delaying the implementation of the final rule by bullying the Department of the Interior to extend the deadline for comments an additional 30 days. The goal of this extension is to give the anti-gun-rights lobby more time to oppose self defense rights in our national parks. Please contact the department of the interior and let them know that you support concealed carry and self defense rights: Read the rest of this article »

Take A Friend Shooting for the First Time

There are a lot of misperceptions, bias, and misinformation out there about guns.  This can make even reasonable and intelligent people, who don’t have first hand experience with guns, believe that guns are somehow evil or are the cause of crime.   One great way to dispel these myths and let your anti-gun friends decide for themselves is to take them to shooting range.  My girlfriend and I recently did that just that, with a co-worker of mine and his wife.  Below are suggestions I have on how to make such an outing to the shooting range a success, along with our experience.
