Below is an action alert from the Illinois State Rifle Association, concerning concealed carry and the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling in Shepard/Moore v. Madigan:
As previously mentioned, Illinois’ Governor Quinn attempted to use his amendatory veto power to turn a quite reasonable pro-gun bill into a ban on so-called “assault weapons.” The good news is that, despite Governor Pat Quinn’s efforts, Illinois’ law abiding gun owners have prevailed:
Below is a bulletin from the Illinois State Rifle Association, concerning Illinois SB681 and Governor Quinn’s actions to turn an unobjectionable piece of pro-gun legislation into a ban on so-called assault weapons: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE On Wednesday, Nov. 28th, 2012, the Illinois Senate passed SB681 in its original form at a margin of 49 – 4. The bill, SB681, was a simple bill that allowed ammunition to be mail ordered from dealers or companies in Illinois and shipped to … Continued

As reported, a homeowner used his gun to stop an early-morning intruder:
Back in 2006, Cook County, IL (which includes Chicago and its surrounding suburbs) enacted a ban on s0-called “assault weapons“. This ban is both vague and ambiguous, unreasonably restricting the right to keep and bear arms, while also making it difficult to impossible for gun owners to know what exactly they may lawfully own. The Illinois State Rifle Association sued, and the Illinois Supreme Court recently ruled that this case needs to be reconsidered, in light of the pro-gun-rights US … Continued
As reported, a woman used her self defense gun to shoot a pair of intruders, saving herself and her two children:
AON, a large insurance corporation, is holding a fundraiser for the Brady Campaign, which is the nation’s largest anti-group. This fundraiser will take place on October 4, 2010 in a club located in AON’s headquarter’s building in downtown Chicago. I find it sad that AON is using its corporate resources to undermine our constitutional right to gun ownership and advance the interests of a group such as the Brady Campaign. I, for one, will speak with my wallet, and see … Continued
As I’ve previously mentioned, shooting is a great sport for those with disabilities. The Illinois State Rifle Association and the Vaughan Chapter, Paralyzed Veterans of America, have teamed up to offer the first of what will be many shooting events for the disabled:

The Republicans and Democrats who are vying to be the next Governor of Illinois recently answered a series of gun rights questions. I would encourage every IL gun owner to read those responses and keep them in mind when voting. The Illinois State Rifle Association’s response to those answers can be seen below:
As reported, HB 182 and HB 3714 were signed into law last week by IL governor Pat Quinn:
Below is an announcement from the ISRA, about the Second Amendment Freedom Rally. It takes place Friday, June 26,2009 in downtown Chicago. I really encourage everyone to attend. Sadly, I won’t be there, since I now live in Iowa and can’t take the day off from work.
Although I just posted an ISRA action alert yesterday, I have another one today, because this is just too important to wait:
The Illinois State Rifle Association has released the action alert shown below, encouraging those who support gun rights to help out a brand new political action committee (PAC). The mission of this PAC is to “elect those who support the 2nd Amendment, and work even harder to un-elect those who do not.” I encourage everyone, whether you live in the state of Illinois or not, to help out.
Below is a notice from the ISRA, discussing their 7th Annual Range Open House, which is on June 27, 2009. All law abiding citizens are invited, including those who do not own a firearm and wish to shoot for the first time under the supervision of qualified instructors:

Mark Kirk, a republican congressman from IL, want to be either the next governor or senator for the state of Illinois. He is quite anti gun, having recently sponsored legislation to bring back the federal ban on so-called “assault weapons.” As the ISRA notes, on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 2:00pm, Mark Kirk is holding a townhall meeting in Palatine, IL to discuss “gang violence in the suburbs.” This is a great opportunity to make sure that Mark Kirk hears … Continued
Below is an action alert from the Illinois State Rifle Association, regarding a California anti gun group’s attempt to blame law abiding Illinois gun owners for the crimes of criminals in this state and other states. Law abiding gun owners in the area should attend and make our voices heard.
Below is an ISRA action alert concerning House Bill 12 and House Bill 845, which are two anti gun measures that will be voted upon this week. As we’ve seen recently, taking just a minute to stand up for gun rights can make all the difference, so I would encourage everyone to do their part.
The NRA has put together a nice report on proposed Illinois laws that effect gun rights. It is critical that those of us who live in IL contact our elected officials and make our voices heard, as our gun rights are in jeopardy. Those who live outside of Illinois should also recognize that the anti gun laws pending in Illinois could soon come to your state too, as anti gun laws can spread like wildfire.
As I’ve mentioned before, we Americans must either stand up for our gun rights, or see them vanish the way they have vanished in other countries. I’ve also mentioned that Illinois is the front lines when it comes to the struggle for gun rights, as IL cities are the only ones left with handgun bans, IL is one of only two states that completely bans concealed carry, and Cook County, IL is constantly trying to enact new draconian gun bans. … Continued
Illinois residents are encouraged to attend the Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day (IGOLD) on March 11, 2009, which is the annual event where we gun owners make our voices heard in the state capitol. This would also be a great time to respectfully discuss the ISP’s unlawful FOID card delays with legislators who are in a position to end that abuse of police power:
I recently read a comment on The War on Guns, in which an individual advocates a boycott of Illinois-based gun manufacturers, due to the rather strict anti gun laws in that state. He argues that buying from those manufacturers supplies tax money to the state of Illinois, which he accuses of “enslaving you and your children.” While I (obviously) disagree with Illinois gun control laws, and do everything in my power to change those laws, I don’t think that boycotting … Continued
It is no secret that the 2008 elections results are a blow to gun rights. However not all is lost, so long as gun owners continue to support gun rights at the local, state, and national level:
As the ISRA reports, 14 counties in Illinois had a non-binding CCW referendum on the ballot yesterday. The question on the ballots was generally worded like: Shall the General Assembly enact legislation to permit the carrying of concealed firearms? While non-binding, these resolutions mark an important step in the path to concealed carry in Illinois – which is one of only 2 states left without some concealed carry right. Here are the results from those 14 Illinois counties:
When it comes to this election, there is little I can say that has not already been said. Remember to vote, for the success our democracy depends upon citizen involvement in politics. Don’t forget to read the NRA’s candidate endorsements, read the ISRA’s candidate ratings, and vote pro gun rights.
The Illinois State Rifle Association has released the notice shown below. It concerns attempts by Chicago area politicians to take away gun rights of those living in the Western suburbs, and the forcing of failed Chicago-style gun control on other parts of the state. On a personal note, I find this particularly troublesome, as I enjoy the wonderful hobby of trapshooting at the Naperville Sportsman’s Park. I would urge those in Illinois’ 96th District to vote for the pro-gun-rights State … Continued
Below is an open letter from Richard A. Pearson, Executive Director of the Illinois State Rifle Association. In the letter he discusses his first hand experience in dealing with then-state-senator Barack Obama, who was the most anti gun rights politicians that Pearson ever met:
The Illinois State Rifle Association has released their 2008 election candidate endorsements, which can be seen here.
Barack Obama and Joe Biden are likey the two most anti gun candidates in presidential history, and they know that this may cost them the election. They are therefore attempting to confuse gun owners by (untruthfully) casting themselves as pro gun. Biden did it last week, and now Obama is at it, making the utterly untrue statement that “Illinois sportsmen know him as an advocate for their rights”. The ISRA has set the record straight:
I received an email today from a gentleman named Mick, who mentioned a rather serious problem going on in Illinois with respect to FOID card issuance. Mick and several other people he knows have waited over 60 days to get their FOID cards, despite the fact that the law requires the FOID be issued or denied within 30 days. I also personally know of a person whose FOID application has been pending for more than the 30 day waiting period … Continued
The ISRA sent the following notice about the pro-second amendment resolution meeting for Lake County, IL, which will take pace on Tuesday, August 12th 2008. If you can make it to this important pro-gun-rights meeting, please do so!
The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) has declared the Second Amendment protects the right of an individual to keep and bear arms, striking down the (failed) District of Columbia handgun ban. This article discusses what exactly the court held, and what that means for American gun owners:
