Below is an action alert from the NRA. I encourage all gun owners to take a moment of their time to contact their elected officials and voice their opposition to new senseless gun bans.
Iowa gun owners are encouraged to come to Second Amendment Day in the Iowa Legislature, on February 23, 2016.
Colion Noir breaks down the ambiguous ‘fear mongering’ accusation that undermines real world perspective. Mr. Noir addresses the reality of gun control, and how we must be vigilant to protect our gun rights.
In an article entitled President Obama Isn’t Taking People’s Guns—But Maybe He Should, Daily Beast writer Barrett Holmes Pitner makes a variety of anti-gun arguments that lack a basis in law or fact. My response is shown below.
As reported, a terrorist attacked a group of citizens standing at a bus stop in Israel, using his car and then a large knife, but was then stopped by an armed citizen. The incident was caught on video.
Last week, an attorney’s office about 1/4 mile down the road from my office was the scene of a shooting. The attacker later took his own life. Fortunately, the victims received “only” superficial physical injuries, according to news reports.
On April 11, by a vote of 68-31, the U.S. Senate voted to move forward with debate and votes on a variety of gun control proposals. The underlying bill that will be considered by the Senate is S. 649, the so-called “Safe Communities, Safe Schools Act of 2013.” A number of amendments will be offered to S. 649, including a ban on commonly and lawfully-owned firearms and magazines and language to criminalize the private transfer of firearms and force gun … Continued
Below is an alert from Gun Owners of America:

As reported, a Myrtle Beach, South Carolina woman used her handgun to scare away an armed robber who had just told her “you’re dead.”
Those opposed to gun rights are trotting out the idea of gun manufacturer liability again, despite the fact that the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (“PLCAA”), 15 U.S.C. §§ 7901-7903 (a Federal law) has made clear such liability does not exist:
Below is an alert from the Illinois State Rifle Association regarding an upcoming anti-gun meeting. Gun owners in the Northern suburbs of Chicago are encouraged to attend:
As is readily apparent, those opposed to gun rights are making full use of the the the Sandy Hook School Shooting and resulting public sentiment to enact pointless and wrongful anti-gun laws. Now is the time for supporters of gun rights to take action. That action should be at both the individual and group levels:
Below is the text of NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre’s testimony before the United State Senate at its “What should America do about gun violence?” hearing last week.
The County Sheriffs of Colorado have opposed the introduction of new anti gun laws, calling the anti-gun reaction after Sandy Hook “hasty.”
Below is an NRA article that discusses S. 150, which is the new proposed Federal “assault weapon” ban. Those who haven’t done so already should take action now to protect our gun rights.
As reported, a letter signed by 77 members of Congress and addressed to President Obama points out the flawed approach that is being undertaken by the president in the wake of the Sandy Hook shootings. A couple of noteworthy paragraphs:
SPECIAL ALERT – NEW LOCATION FOR RALLY: GLENVIEW GUN CONTROLLERS PLAN RECRUITMENT AND ORGANIZATION RALLY The ISRA has been notified that the location of this event has been moved due to “anticipated larger attendance”. Below is a news release from the Second Amendment Foundation. It addresses an issue that I have also discussed both in the past as well as more recently, which is the hypocritical manner in which anti-gun politicians try to deny ordinary citizens the right to keep and bear arms for self defense, while still keeping their own armed bodyguards:
Ruger has created a nice webpage that will allow you to inform the President, Vice-President, your Senators, Representative, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, State-Level Elected Officials, and State Attorney General that you support gun rights and believe that the passage of anti-gun laws is misguided. I encourage everyone to spend a minute doing so. The web page can be seen here. Then, click here to see other steps that you can take to protect our gun rights.
President Obama is a long-standing opponent of gun rights. He has opposed concealed carry, going so far as to voice support for a Federal law banning concealed carry in every state. One would be hard-pressed to find an anti-gun law that Obama hasn’t supported. At the same time, President Obama enjoys the armed security provided by the secret service. His neighbors in Chicago are unable to park their cars near their own homes, and have to pass through security checkpoints, … Continued
I would like to point out an excellent article entitled Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s Gun Control Alchemy. This article was written by Nicholas J. Johnson, who is a Professor of Law at Fordham University. My thanks to the reader who pointed out this excellent article to me.

As previously mentioned, Illinois’ Governor Quinn attempted to use his amendatory veto power to turn a quite reasonable pro-gun bill into a ban on so-called “assault weapons.” The good news is that, despite Governor Pat Quinn’s efforts, Illinois’ law abiding gun owners have prevailed:
The Daily Barometer published an editorial entitled “Guns are Not Toys,” which is little more than anti gun propaganda. Quotes from that editorial and my response can be seen below.
Below is a bulletin from the Illinois State Rifle Association, concerning Illinois SB681 and Governor Quinn’s actions to turn an unobjectionable piece of pro-gun legislation into a ban on so-called assault weapons: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE On Wednesday, Nov. 28th, 2012, the Illinois Senate passed SB681 in its original form at a margin of 49 – 4. The bill, SB681, was a simple bill that allowed ammunition to be mail ordered from dealers or companies in Illinois and shipped to … Continued
Below is a video clip that gives an overview of the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) history and mission. This history goes back over 100 years, and also includes work on the recent McDonald v. Chicago case:
Back in 2008, I wrote a brief article entitled “Gun Rights for Convicted Felons?” In that article, I noted that a US Federal law (and various state laws) prohibit anyone convicted of a felony from possessing firearms*, and stated that
I’ve previously mentioned how the National ACLU is, much to my dismay, anti-gun. However, some state chapters of the ACLU have been known to stand up for gun rights. Recently, the ACLU of South Dakota has filed a lawsuit seeking to overturn a South Dakota law that unfairly (and unconstitutionally) restricts concealed carry permits:
Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day, the annual event sponsored by the Illinois State Rifle Association, will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2011. I firmly intend to be there this year, and encourage everyone else to attend as well. IGOLD 2011 details can be seen below:
A recent article from the BBC discussed how in 2009-2010, 16 people were killed in England and Wales, despite having contacted the police to request protection from a violent individual. The news report noted that those 16 killings represented a near doubling from the previous year. More information on that situation, and my thoughts about the wisdom of trusting the police to preserve one’s life, are below:
As reported, a man used his lawfully carried handgun to stop a trio of robbers:
United States Supreme Court Justice Bryer recently stated that he believed that the founders of this county would have allowed gun control. Given that Justice Bryer voted against gun rights in D.C. v. Heller and McDonald v. Chicago, I can’t say I was too surprised to hear that statement. However, I find myself in great disagreement with the idea that the framers of the constitution would have supported gun control. The video clip shown below has an excellent discussion of … Continued
Back in 2006, Cook County, IL (which includes Chicago and its surrounding suburbs) enacted a ban on s0-called “assault weapons“. This ban is both vague and ambiguous, unreasonably restricting the right to keep and bear arms, while also making it difficult to impossible for gun owners to know what exactly they may lawfully own. The Illinois State Rifle Association sued, and the Illinois Supreme Court recently ruled that this case needs to be reconsidered, in light of the pro-gun-rights US … Continued
Last year, I mentioned how the 2009 Gallup’s annual Crime Poll showed record low support for stricter gun control laws. The same poll conducted this year broke that record, showing even lower support for stricter gun control:
As I’ve discussed before, President Obama is about as anti gun as it gets. He was endorsed by the Brady Campaign, and chose gun rights opponent Joe Biden to be his vice president. Since taking office, he has nominated anti gun individuals such as Attorney General Eric Holder, Department of Homeland Security head Janet Napolitano, and State Department official Harold Hongju Koh to key positions within his administration. This trend continues with Obama’s nomination of Andrew Traver to head the … Continued
I’ve previously discussed the ongoing drug cartel violence in Mexico, and the unreasonable attempts to blaming American gun owners for that situation. Recently, the Mexican ambassador has rekindled the debate, blaming the NRA and law abiding gun owners for that country’s internal violence and drug cartels. In the video clip below, Wayne LaPierre discusses the situation:
The results from the November 2, 2010 election were quite favorable towards gun rights. Below is a press release from Gun Owners of America which discusses the victories:
Below is a video clip by Otis McDonald, the plaintiff in the McDonald v. Chicago case which led to the end of the Chicago handgun ban. In this video clip, he discusses gun rights, the upcoming election, the McDonald v. Chicago case, and more. He also endorses Bill Brady for IL Governor:
The McDonald v. Chicago case, in which the Supreme Court of the United States held that the Second Amendment applies against state/local gun control laws, was an important gun rights victory. As is customary with such Supreme Court cases, the parties are afforded the opportunity to verbally argue their case before the Supreme Court. The arguments are quite interesting, and the questions asked by the Supreme Court Justices show insight into their thoughts on the Second Amendment. The audio recordings … Continued
Earlier this month, Malcolm Gay’s article entitled “More States Allowing Guns in Bars” appeared in the New York Times. The article, while not as outrageously anti-gun as some other articles, takes a dim view of concealed carry, and engages in unfounded fear mongering of the type that is all too common. Quotes from that article, and my responses, can be seen below:
AON, a large insurance corporation, is holding a fundraiser for the Brady Campaign, which is the nation’s largest anti-group. This fundraiser will take place on October 4, 2010 in a club located in AON’s headquarter’s building in downtown Chicago. I find it sad that AON is using its corporate resources to undermine our constitutional right to gun ownership and advance the interests of a group such as the Brady Campaign. I, for one, will speak with my wallet, and see … Continued

I would like to point out an article entitled “Misrepresented gun statistics fire off unwarranted judgment,” by Alexander Seymour. This article was published in The Orion, a student newspaper for California State University. In his article, Mr. Seymour draws attention to the Brady Campaign’s deceptive misuse of gun statistics, as well as the flawed reasoning behind the Brady Campaign’s gun control goals. While I don’t agree with everything in that article, this article is a breath of fresh air – … Continued
