As reported, a homeowner used his gun to save himself from a pair of armed home invaders:
Police say that at about 1:20 AM, a pair of armed intruders broke in to a home on the 29000 block of Parkwood Street in Inkster, MI, and confronted the homeowner, who had been sleeping. A struggle reportedly ensued, and the intruder opened fire. The homeowner, who was not hit by the intruder’s bullets, was able to grab and fire his self defense gun, striking one of the intruders and causing both to flee, according to police. A suspect, who was dead from a gunshot wound, was reportedly found in the homeowner’s driveway, and police are said to be seeking the second suspect. The homeowner, who is also a concealed carry permit holder, is not expected to face any charges for his self defense actions.
Once again, gun ownership is the best way to defend oneself when facing a home invasion – especially when the criminals are armed with guns. Those who are unarmed, or who are armed with an inferior weapon, will often end up overpowered by the criminal, with dire consequences. Nor can a citizen rely upon the police for protection, as they are minutes away while it takes a criminal who is breaking in just seconds to get to their victim. It is also important to note that the police will sometimes fail to help even when asked repeatedly, and they are not legally liable for that failure. Adding to the problem, police are 5.5 times more likely than an armed citizen to shoot the wrong person, meaning that there is a certain degree of danger any time that there are armed police coming to the aid of a citizen.
