As reported, a Miami-Dade, Florida homeowner fatally shot one burglar and sent his accomplice fleeing.

Police say that two intruders broke into a home near the intersection of Northeast Eighth Court and 209th Terrace at about 11:00pm.  The homeowner is said to have fired his gun in self defense, striking and fatally wounding a 22 year old intruder, at which point the second intruder fled.  A witness reported hearing six to eight shots fired in self defense and police are searching for the second suspect.  No injuries to the homeowner were reported.

It is fortunate for this homeowner that he lives in a state like Florida, which respects his right to have a gun suitable for self defense.  Had he lived in New York, where the legislature has seen fit to use the Sandy Hook shooting as an excuse to ban magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, and to make it a crime to load more than 7 rounds into any magazine, this homeowner might not have been able to defend himself.
