Eric Holder, Barack Obama‘s anti gun Attorney General called for a new ban on so-called “assault weapons.” Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi swiftly squelched that plan for the time being, apparently out of fear of the political repercussions:
“As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons,” [Attorney General Eric] Holder told reporters.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tossed cold water on the prospect of reinstating the assault weapons ban, highlighting Democrats’ reluctance to take on gun issues. “On that score, I think we need to enforce the laws we have right now,” [Speaker of the House Nancy] Pelosi said at her weekly news conference. “I think it’s clear the Bush administration didn’t do that.”
It is good to see that some of Obama’s gun control plans may not soon come to fruition. However it is important to note that Nancy Pelosi is on record as wanting to confiscate all guns suitable for self defense and strictly regulate all hunting guns – if only she believed it were politically possible to accomplish. Now is the time for gun owners, and indeed everyone who respect our country’s constitution, to stand up for gun rights. We need to make sure that it stays too politically costly for the Obama administration and the anti gun congress to institute another ban on guns suitable for self defense purposes.

Attorney General Eric Holder needs to be muzzled in his attempts to reinstate a ban on so-called “assault weapons” because that ban did not work to keep weapons out of the hands of criminals. The TRUE definition of an assault weapon is a weapon that can be switched from single fire to automatic. Americans, without a special license, cannot legally own a weapon like this so this “ban” is nothing but an attempt to disarm law-abiding United States citizens. Also adding the additional banning of most center-fire rifle ammunition as “armor-piercing” is lunacy incarnate. 99% of all rifles sold use center-fire ammunition and NONE of that ammunition is “armor-piercing” in the slightest.
