Year-Round Trap and Skeet in the Quad Cities: DLS Gun Club

As I’ve previously mentioned, my fiancé and I have been going trapshooting every week at the Oak Hills Gun Club in Blue Grass, IA.  Unfortunately, their weekly trapshooting closed for the season at the end of October, so we had to find a place that is open during the winter.  Last weekend, we went to the DLS gun club, and I’m happy to say that it is a great place to shoot trap (and skeet):

Finding DLS

I had a bit of trouble find DLS’s address online.  They don’t have a website, and some other websites that mentioned DLS provide an incorrect address and phone number.  For the record, here is the correct address and phone number for DLS:

DLS Gun Club
30245 220 Ave
Long Grove, IA 52756
(563)225-2311

Our experience at DLS

I called the phone number for DLS on Saturday morning around 11:30AM to get their address, and spoke with one of the owners.  She who was quite nice, and told me that they are open for trap on from noon – 3pm Saturday/Sunday (I understand that they are open for skeet in the mornings, but anyone who is interested should call to confirm the time since I’m not 100% sure as to the details).  After buying some shells, my fiancé and I drove over to DLS, which is only about 20 minutes from our house.  As we arrived, another person we knew from Oak Hills was on his way out after shooting some skeet that morning.

We went inside the DLS clubhouse and met the other owner, who was also quite nice (which is pretty much what we’ve come to expect at gun clubs and gun stores).  The owner immediately offered to let us borrow shell pouches and any other gear that we might need, although that was not necessary since we came fully prepared.  Still, it was a nice gesture on his part to make us feel welcome.  Trap was $4.25 per person per round, which is quite reasonable.  There was no wait, and we found the facilities to be quite nice.  In particular, the club house is spacious, and the trap range is well maintained.  All in all, I’m quite happy with DLS.

Now that we have a place to trapshoot year round, it is just a question of whether my fiancé and I will really keep trapshooting during the winter as it gets progressively colder… 🙂
