As reported, a man who was burglarizing a home was fatally shot in self defense by the homeowner:

Police say that at around 10:00 PM, a man broke into a home located near the 5600 block of Village Pond Circle in Jacksonville, FL.  Acting in self defense, the homeowner is said to have shot the intruder, causing him to flee.  The body of an 18 year old male suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, was reportedly found in the middle of the street.  No injuries to the homeowner were reported.

Once again, we have an armed citizen who was able to successfully defend himself against a violent criminal – as happens about 2.5 million times each year in the USA.  Rather than being harmed because he had nothing of sufficient value for the intruder to steal, or just because the criminal was in a sadistic mood, this man was able to avoid injury.

My thanks to Steven for pointing out this self defense case.
