As reported, a homeowner in Springfield used his gun to detain a burglar until the police could arrive.
Police say that a man was home with his wife and children when their burglar alarm went off. The homeowner is said to have gone to investigate, at which point he found a burglar who had used a screwdriver to force his way in to the garage. According to news reports, the homeowner then held the intruder at gunpoint until the police arrived and arrested a suspect for burglary and possession of criminal tools.
Many self defense gun uses don’t result in a single shot being fired, and this case is an example of exactly that. Indeed, I have written about a great many such cases where an armed citizen used their gun without having to fire it.Anti gun statistics don’t count such uses, despite the fact that the vast majority of the 2.5 million defensive gun uses each year don’t result in the gun being fired at all.
