As reported, a homeowner  shot an early morning home invader in self defense:

Police say that in the early hours of the morning, a homeowner found an intruder lurking in his home, which is located on Northwest 1st Street in Boynton Beach, Florida.  Fearing for his safety, the homeowner is said to have shot the intruder in self defense.  A suspect, reportedly identified as 20 year old Eddie Weal, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, according to police.  No injuries to the homeowner or any other occupants were reported.

By the time the police respond to a 911 call, the crime in question may very well have been completed. Even the best circumstances, the police are minutes away, while a shooting, rape, murder, robbery, home invasion, or other violent crime can take place in just seconds. Luckily, this homeowner had a gun for self defense, and as a result was able to save himself.
