Robber Shot by Concealed Carry Permit Holder on the South Side of Chicago

A 69 year old man used the handgun he was legally carrying to stop 3 robbers who attacked him.

News reports say that at about 10:40pm, the 69 year old man was approached by three younger robbers who demanded his belongings, at which point he drew his legally carried pistol and shot one of the robbers in the knee. All three robbers fled, only to crash their getaway car. Police are said to have apprehended three suspects.

Chicago has come a long way when it comes to self defense and crime. For most of my life, Chicago had the notorious distinction of being the murder capitol of the country – despite a handgun ban. That handgun ban failed to disarm Chicago’s violent criminals, but did ensure that their victims were defenseless.

Thanks to another South Side resident named Otis McDonald, that unconstitutional gun ban was finally struck down in 2010. As a result, we have seen a rise in self defense gun use cases such as this one in Chicago. Armed victims can and do stop criminals.
