As reported, a 70 year old woman from South Bend, Indiana called 911 to report that someone was breaking in to her home. She grabbed her .38 caliber revolver, and after the criminal crawled in through a window, she held him at gunpoint. After about 5 minutes, police arrived and arrested 28-year-old Cyrus Brown on preliminary charges of burglary, resisting arrest, and intimidation.
Once again, we have an elderly woman who was able to defend themselves with a gun. Had this 70 year old woman not had a gun, it is quite unlikely that she would have been able to defend herself against a 28 year old man. In the five minutes it took the police to arrive, that home invader could have raped or killed the woman, had she not been armed. But luckily for this woman and her family, she was armed, and did not suffer at the hands of a criminal. And luckily for society, this home invader will be behind bars, unable to attack victims who are less prepared to defend themselves.

Having a gun is a huge responsibility not to be take for granted, lucky for this women knew what to do in case she need the safety for her and family. Having a gun to defend yourself when it is called for. Knowing how and when is something else.
