As reported, an armed home invader was fatally shot by the homeowner in Lakeland, Florida.

Police say that around 6:30am, 24 year old Chevez Faison entered a home in Lakeland, Florida and fired shots at two of the home’s occupants.  The homeowner reportedly fired in self defense, fatally wounding the intruder. The Sheriff of Polk County is said to have stated to news reporters that “Forcing your way into an occupied residence is a bold and foolish decision — if you are foolish enough to break into someone’s home, you can expect to be shot in Polk County.”

The Sheriff’s statement is quite correct and precisely what is needed from law enforcement.  Every day, law abiding citizens use guns in self defense to save themselves from robberies, burglaries, home invasions, violent attackers, rapists, and other criminals.  Studies and real-life examples show that armed self defense works.
