A Shooting at a Law Firm Down the Street from My Law Firm

Last week, an attorney’s office about 1/4 mile down the road from my office was the scene of a shooting. The attacker later took his own life. Fortunately, the victims received “only” superficial physical injuries, according to news reports.

The Charleston Church Mass Shooting

Although the details are still coming in, it is clear that nine people were killed at the historic African American Emanuel AME church in South Caroline – a church that has deep ties to the civil rights movement. A suspect, reportedly identified as 21 year old white male Dylann Storm Roof, is in police custody.  News reports allege that Mr. Roof made racist remarks during the shooting, and that a picture on facebook shows Mr. Roof wearing flags from apartheid-era Rhodesia and … Continued

Concealed Carry at my Law Firm – and the Backlash from a Judge

For 4 years, my law firm has offered employees a $50/month bonus if they choose to take the training to obtain their permit to carry, lawfully obtain that permit, and lawfully carry at the office.  I mentioned that bonus in passing a couple years ago.   On March 17, 2015, a boyfriend of a (still unidentified) former employee apparently mentioned that to a morning talk radio show that was discussing things employees could do to earn some extra money while at work. … Continued

Your Action Urgently Needed to Prevent BATFE from Banning Common Rifle Ammunition!

From the NRA: President Obama insisted that if Congress would not enact his gun control agenda, he would do so on his own, through executive action. Whatever else can be said of the president’s track record, he is doing his utmost to keep that promise. Having failed to enact a federal ban on the AR-15, America’s most popular rifle, he’s now using the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to do the next best thing. BATFE is now … Continued

Firearm Industry Economic Development in Iowa

Many businesses in the firearm industry are under attack by oppressive laws and regulations in their current states or municipalities. As a result, it is becoming increasingly more difficult for them to provide us the selection and quality of product at competitive prices that we have come to expect and enjoy. These companies have been there for us. Now it’s time for us to be there for them. Many other states across the country are courting these companies and providing … Continued

Gun Shaped Cloud Spotted Over School – All Students Suspended for 5 Days

I thought I would point out a (satirical) picture titled “Gun Shaped Cloud Spotted Over School – All Students Suspended for 5 Days.”  Given the trend of suspending a 7 year old for having a pastry shaped like a gun and suspending a 6 year old for making a gun shape with his hand, I imagine this isn’t too far from reality.
