As reported, armed robberies in the village of Oak Park, IL are up a staggering 250% compared to 2007, and during the last 4 days, 3 Oak Park residents have been robbed a gunpoint in their own garages.
The latest such robbery occurred on Thursday afternoon. It involved a man in his garage on the 1000 block of Clinton Avenue, when around 4:45 p.m. the Oak Park man was approached by a 6’3″ 200 pound criminal, who displayed a black revolver and robbed the man of his wallet.
I’ve previously discussed how Oak Park’s decision to cut police protection and to forbid law abiding citizens to have a handgun for self defense would only lead to more crime, and this is exactly what is happening. The people who are committing armed robbery are not afraid of a gun possession charge, since the punishment when caught for armed robbery is so much greater. Instead, only the law abiding people who weren’t going to commit a crime in the first place obey the handgun ban, leaving them vulnerable to the armed criminals.
