As I mentioned before, a city of Chicago vehicle booter was recently shot while performing his duties. This is not the first time that such a shooting has occurred. Mayor Daley has rejected calls to either have the employees work in teams of two, or to provide police protection to these workers. Instead, the Chicago police act as 24 hour bodyguards to Daley and other politicians, and do so at tax payer expense.
Here, Mayor Daley has denied these city of Chicago workers the ability to carry a gun for self defense. He has denied them the ability to work in teams of 2 for saftey, and he has denied them police protection. Instead, he has blamed handguns for the rampant crime in Chicago, despite the fact that handguns have been banned in Chicago for decades. It think it is simply unconscionable for Daley to spend city money on armed bodyguards for himself and other influential Chicago politicians (who have very little if any threats to their lives) while sending unarmed city workers into dangerous neighborhoods by themselves. This type of gun hypocrisy really needs to end.
