As the SAF Reports, the Brady Campaign is attempting to block the confirmation of federal judges who support the individual right of Americans to keep and bear arms.
For those who are not familiar with the process, federal judges are appointed by the President. They then must be confirmed by the Senate. The anti-gun groups are now working to block the confirmation of federal judges who support the second amendment. As a law student, it pains me to see confirmation hearings twisted and misused in this way. A federal judge’s primary job is to uphold the constitution, including the second amendment. It would be analogous to preventing a doctor from practicing medicine, because he/she believes in healing his/her patients… Or preventing a lawyer from practicing law because he/she follows the ethics guidelines he/she has sworn to abide by. The confirmation of a judge is properly blocked when the judge lacks an understanding of the law, when he/she is racist, or when he/she is otherwise incompetent. Preventing the confirmation of a judge who supports the constitution is simply wrong.
This is yet another example of an anti-gun group that tries to override the will of the American public and our elected officials, in order to advance their own agenda. If you are not an NRA member, there has never been a better time to join and protect our gun rights, and our constitution too.
