As reported, 5 teenagers were shot outside the Dunbar Vocational Career Academy, which is a high school on Chicago’s South side.  Gunmen opened fire from a car, and the shooting is believed to be gang related.  A 6 person suffered injuries when she was trampled by those trying to escape from the gunfire.

After every high profile shooting, Chicago’s politicians drag out the same tired anti gun rights arguments, while ignoring the fact that gun control has consistently failed to reduce crime.  Until such a time as criminals begin to obey laws, handgun bans will just be another law for criminals to ignore, just as they ignore the laws against murder, rape, and armed robbery.  While it does not reduce crime, the handgun ban does seem to ensure that law abiding citizens are defenseless against criminals who ignore the handgun ban.  Chicago really should follow the lead of its suburbs, and repeal the pointless and likely unconstitutional handgun ban.
